Alain Tamoffo Tchio is a postdoctoral researcher at the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) of the Helmholtz Centre Hereon since May 2023. He is currently investigating the Processes associated with the diurnal cycle of precipitation over West Africa at a Convection‐permitting scale. This project is funded by the Humboldt Foundation under the framework of the Humboldt Research Fellowship for researchers of all nationalities and research areas – postdoctoral and experienced researchers. The goal of the project is to investigate physical processes associated with the diurnal cycle of precipitation over West Africa for the purpose of improving the forecast and projection of West Africa rainfall, and also while providing useful guidance for the model's development for more accurate future forecasts and projections.

Alain Tamoffo participated in the International Joint Laboratory "DYnamics of land eCOsystems in Central Africa in a context of global changes" (LMI DYCOFAC) project. The goal of the LMI DYCOFAC project is to investigate the interlinkages between climate changes and land use through the dynamics of vegetation cover and biogeochemical cycles over Central Africa (mainly Cameroon and Gabon).

Alain Tamoffo is also an active member of the CORDEX-Africa for Central Africa; a member of the Working Group of CLIVAR/GEWEX Monsoons Panel for the Central Africa. Here, he investigates inter-linkages between precipitation and processes responsible for their generation for both West and Central Africa. Also, he investigates how these inter-linkages will react to global warming.

Through these programmes, Alain Tamoffo has gained a lot of experience in the analysis and assessment of regional climate change, in particular the climate system of equatorial Africa. Also his participation in workshops such as the “Fifth Workshop on Water Resources in Developing Countries: Hydroclimate Modeling and Analysis Tools: CHyM” at ICTP, Trieste, Italy; the “9th ODC training course on climate dynamics and air-sea interactions” at Qingdao, at the Chinese First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), China, were of great contribution.

Alain Tamoffo holds a Master's degree in Earth System Physics from the University of Yaoundé I. His Master's work focused on the response of extreme precipitation events to global warming over Central Africa, using the regional climate model REMO. He then continued with his Ph.D. thesis work at the same University, focusing on the Implication of 1.5° and 2°C global warming levels in the Congo Basin.

Just after his PhD thesis (defended in March 2021), Alain Tamoffo contributed to the Elaboration of Climate Scenarios for Future Risk and Vulnerability Analyses of Systems (Natural and Human) in the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville): Report 1: Past and Future Climate of the Republic of Congo (Non peer-reviewed manuscript). Then, he relocated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) within the Meteorology and Climate Science Unit, Physics Department as a postdoctoral researcher in the ClimapAfrica Postdoctoral program. During this period he did a short research stay of six months at GERICS. The aim of the work within the program was to assess precipitation processes and their variation in regional climate projections under global warming in the Congo Basin. The analyses were extended to the West African Monsoon System.
